Liloan, Southern Leyte—LGU representatives, Oceana and MERF through the Partnerships for the Philippine 30×30 Target project, and the DENR-CENRO concluded the three-day capacity-building workshop for the Panaon Island Protected Seascape (PIPS) on May 14, 2026.
On the last day of the workshop, participating LGUs began drafting management plans that may serve as reference documents for future writeshops and planning initiatives.
The Para el MAR, a national incentive system regularly organized by MSN, which recognizes outstanding efforts in marine protected area management and coastal resource conservation, was introduced to the participants. Participating LGUs were encouraged to consider joining the Para el MAR in 2027.
Although the formal capacity-building workshop has concluded, Oceana, together with DENR, assured participants that guidance and technical assistance would continue to support local efforts in strengthening awareness campaigns, improving coastal governance, and enhancing the management of the newly declared Panaon Island Protected Seascape.
